I first met Natalie in late December of 2019 during her free Athlete Consultation that we offer to all interested clients. Natalie is a college student and a restaurant employee and she was living the stereotypical college student/restaurant employee lifestyle: late nights from working the restaurant, a college nutrition plan consisting of skipped meals and soda and chips to get by, inadequate sleep, etc. If you’ve been a student, you get it. If you’ve worked at a restaurant, you get it. If you’ve done both at the same time; you have a deep empathy for that lifestyle.
Natalie was determined to make some serious changes to her health and fitness. She realized that this wasn’t the way she wanted to live. She was ready to invest in herself. And she was determined to make it happen no matter what because she realized her health and well-being was valuable and worthy of the investment.
In January Natalie signed up for our Nutrition + Fitness package. Her body composition goals were different than most people think when thinking of nutrition. Most people think that nutrition coaching is for people who need to lose weight. Not true. Natalie didn’t need to lose weight. She needed to gain weight. She realized the importance of having lean muscle mass. She was tired of feeling weak. She wanted to look and feel strong. So she signed up for our nutrition coaching and immediately got to work on eliminating sugar, chips, and other empty calorie foods and within a few weeks Natalie had already kicked the habit of soda and chips and was making effort
While Natalie was working on her nutrition outside the gym, she was working just as hard on her fitness inside the gym. She completed our On Ramp program for new members where we teach the foundations of functional movement in order to prepare them for our group classes. As soon as her 3 Personal Training sessions were complete, she jumped right into classes and became a super consistent athlete, taking 20 classes in her first 40 days; reaping the benefits of consistent effort and commitment to the process.
Between January 10th and March 16th, Natalie had started to create a new lifestyle around fitness, nutrition, and community at Level Up Fitness. Then, on March 17th, Colorado shut down; including her source of income. But that didn’t stop Natalie from her relentless pursuit of maintaining her health and fitness under the leadership and guidance of the gym.
Natalie checked out some equipment, was linked up with a coach that sent personally customized workouts to her each day, and continued her journey towards “better” by working out in her apartment 5 days a week.
When it would have been really easy to cancel her membership (as a student and restaurant employee, it would have made sense) she doubled down on her commitment. And it’s paid HUGE dividends. Not only has she come back to classes physically stronger, she’s come back mentally stronger. When we were talking about a certain workout last week, she mentioned that if we did that same workout in February that she wouldn’t have been able to do it and would have chosen a more modified version. But she had the confidence that day to say, “I’ve got this.” And sure enough, she got it!
We are so proud of Natalie for her commitment and trust in the process. But most of all, for not giving up when everything was telling her to quit; for finding a way through the storm, and for being steadfast in her quest for “better.”
We are stoked to have someone like you reppin’ hard what it means to be a part of the Level Up Fitness tribe. Keep doing your damn thang, Natalie!
